Aluminum oxynitride or ALON is a polycrystalline ceramic material of high strength and hardness. This material is made by conventional sintering and hot pressing of a powder compact. Polycrystalline AlON ceramics have been viewed as one of the most promising materials for transparent armor, visible-infrared window, domes, and infrared/visible window materials due to its desirable mechanical, excellent optical and chemical properties.
